Craft Your Career - An exciting training opportunity in Construction open to individuals aged 16+ who live in Fife

Are you ready to start a new journey in the New Year and have a keen interest in Construction? if so, read on and this could be the right opportunity for you! 

Fife Council in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland and Fife College are delivering a “Craft Your Career” Pre-employment Programme. The programme will specifically focus on individuals undertaking work in their chosen field of either Stonemasonry, Roofing or Joinery Skills.  

This 16-week programme has been designed to support clients to prepare for successful application and interview for potential jobs, as well as gaining relevant Health & Safety training, work placement training and industry experience. 

Candidates will undertake 3 days per week at work placement with an identified employer.  You will study Construction, Craft and Technician Level 4 National Progression Award attending Fife College 1 day per week and receive employability training 1 day per week. The programme will prepare unemployed candidates to develop an understanding and increase knowledge and skills to meet the recruitment standard of employers who are planning to recruit.  On completion of a successful work placement there will be the potential opportunity to progress to full time paid employment. 

The programme consists of 4 Stonemasonry places, 4 Roofing places and 4 Joinery places. 

All PPE and required tools will be provided for college and work placement. 

Health & Safety/Recognised Industry Training: 

  • REHIS Elementary

  • CSCS Labourer’s Card Test 

  • Emergency First Aid at Work

Dates: 

  • Interviews to be held week commencing 27th January 2025 and 3rd February 2025 (Kirkcaldy)

  • Induction start date 10th February 2025 (Kirkcaldy)

  • Health & Safety Training February 2025 

  • Work experience anticipated to commence March 2025 

  • Fife College Induction start date 20th February 2025 therafter course commences 21st February 2025 (Halbeath Campus)

Essential Criteria: 

  • A keen interest in construction and craft skills

  • Committed and available for the duration of programme e.g., training and work placement
  • Able to travel to work placement 

  • Good Level of fitness and ability to work in all weathers 

  • Excellent time keeping and attendance 

  • Flexible and hard working and a willingness to learn 

  • Working as part of a team 

  • Good communication skills 

 Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Unemployed individuals 16+ 

  • Live in Fife 

  • Not in Training or full time Education and must have reached statutory school leaving date 

Financial Support: 

During the training period, a weekly training allowance will be paid, and travel support can be provided to successful candidates travelling to workplace/training days.
